About China Awakens

China Awakens (中国觉醒) is a global community of Chinese-speaking individuals dedicated to promoting constitutional democracy, separation of powers, judicial independence, and civic awareness in China.

The community was co-founded in New York in 2025 by Peng Chen and several fellow initiators.

Who We Are

We are Chinese people who believe in freedom, the rule of law, and human dignity.

Our members come from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Chinese communities around the world. Some have paid a price for holding these beliefs. Some continue to do so today. Others choose to speak publicly from safer environments on behalf of those who cannot yet speak for themselves.

We are a community where awakened individuals can find one another, express their views, document history, and take collective action.

What We Do

We follow and document developments related to democracy, human rights, the rule of law, civil society, and public affairs in China and among Chinese communities worldwide.

The platform provides two ways to participate:

1. Statements and Records

For formal personal expressions.

Users may:

• Publish Declarations of Awakening
• Publish withdrawal statements from the Chinese Communist Party and its affiliated organizations
• Launch or join joint petitions and public initiatives

2. Submissions and Tips

For event documentation and firsthand information.

Users may:

• Submit articles related to democracy, human rights, the rule of law, civil society, and public affairs
• Provide tips, photographs, videos, and supporting materials

Submissions are reviewed for suitability and published under the most appropriate category.

3. Offline Actions

We also participate in public advocacy beyond the internet.

We organize or support peaceful rallies, demonstrations, and public campaigns in support of Taiwan’s democracy and in advocacy of constitutional democracy, separation of powers, and judicial independence in China.

Our Principles

We believe that speaking publicly requires courage.

We respect those who choose to speak and those who choose to remain silent.

We believe history needs witnesses.

Everyone who chooses to stand up becomes part of that history.
